How did you celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day?

I celebrated with my mother as she is my biggest role models! As I become older, I have started to realise how much strength, tenacity and courage she is able to radiate, but also her ability to spread the love around her.

Has there ever been a time in your career where you felt being a woman has held you back?

There have been times where I felt somewhat disadvantaged from the very start. I believe it to be difficult sometimes to assert myself and to make your voice heard. More often than not women who speak up are regarded as annoyance or ascribe to what we are saying simply not important.

Who is a woman that inspires you and why?

My dearest mother! I know this may sound very cliché, but my mother embodies everything that I wish to become one day! As the eldest of a family of 7, my mother travelled all the way from a civil war stricken Somalia to Italy, to find a better place for us to live, this she did all by herself. She brought me up, made sure that I always had the best in life, while providing for her younger sibilings. She put herself through culinary school, while working several shifts, and on top of that maintained a strong circle of strong women around herself. To this day, she is one of the most positive, hard working and humble people I know. Plus she is an unbelievable chef!
